The Emmaus High School girls wrestling team lost in its lone dual match last week, an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match against rival Parkland last Wednesday night.
The Hornets were downed 44-30 for their first dual match loss in the last three.
Against the Trojans, Emmaus won five of the 13 bouts, with all five victories coming via pins. Jocelyn Vargas opened the match with a pin in 2:20 at 170 pounds to put the Hornets out in front 6-0.
After a Parkland pin at 190 pounds, Katherine Soto-Acuna gave her team the lead right back with a pin in 1:08 at 235 pounds as Emmaus led 12-6. Parkland would then win the next five bouts, earning 28 points with three pins, a forfeit win and a major decision to take a 34-12 advantage. Sarah Luisi stopped the streak as she collected a pin in 1:32 at 130 pounds to cut the deficit to 34-18 with four bouts to go.
The Trojans took the next two with a major decision and pin to take a 44-18 lead. Haily Laible and Olivya Kroope finished off the match strong for the Hornets with back-to-back pins at 148 and 155 pounds, respectively.
The Hornets are now 4-3 overall in duals and 3-3 in the conference.
Emmaus has a busy week with two conference matches on back-to-back nights and then the EPC Championships at Liberty High School on Saturday. They have three more dual matches against Pocono Mountain East, Palisades and Northampton before the District 11 meet at Easton Middle School on Sunday, Feb. 16.
