The Bethlehem Area School District Finance Committee began the Jan. 13 meeting with Hank Miller, a CPA with Gorman & Associates of Northampton, who presented their findings for the 2023-24 audit. Miller reported “no significant deficiencies “adding that this audit also checks for compliance with Federal programs. No issues were reported.
Chief Facilities Officer Mark Stein reported the Fountain Hill ES construction project will begin in June 2025 and be finished by August 2027.
Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. John Burris led the Human Resource Committee discussion regarding Board Policy 201 that addresses Admission of Students (second reading). This specifically deals with the kindergarten age requirement. Other discussion included the benefits of services provided by Kellyn Foundation Intensive Therapeutic Lifestyle changes to staff. Superintendent Dr. Jack Silva supports this program by stating it helps provide a “Healthier, happier workforce.”
The Curriculum Committee discussion focused on laws and procedures related to undocumented students. Protections are high and school districts cannot ask students about their citizenship.
The regular school board meeting scheduled for Jan. 27 has been moved from East Hills MS to the Education Center beginning at 7 p.m.
