WHS girls top ESS
Whitehall’s girls swim team notched its fourth win of the season with a 105-64 victory over East Stroudsburg South on Jan. 14 at Whitehall.
“It was a good meet for the girls. It came out as expected; a good day and some really good times,” said Whitehall coach Dave Seeloff.
Greta O’Brien, Jenna Giedl, Kyra Giedl, and Ryann Giedl opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:12.91).
“It’s pretty important to get a good start and get ahead on the points,” Jenna Giedl said.
The Giedls, who are triplets, teamed up again, this time with Kendall Bashore, to win the 200 free relay (1:57.83).
“”To us, it’s a plus,” said Ryann. “We work better together. We’re sisters, and we talk better more, and I think it’s definitely a plus.”
Ryann swam anchor on both relays.
“I usually like being in the middle because it’s less pressure, but when we win, it’s a good feeling, knowing that you finished it off, so I like that,” she said. “The [200 free relay] was more challenging because I wasn’t really sure about the (East Stroudsburg South) girls who were in it, but in the medley, I knew the girl I was going against.”
Katharine Amundsen was South’s anchor in the 200 relay, but Giedl out touched Amundsen by 6 seconds.
Bashore was the 200 freestyle winner (2:09.68), as well as the 100 free winner (59.18), and O’Brien won the 200 IM (2:36.47) and the 500 free (6:17.64).
Ryann Giedl took first place in the 50 free (30.49), and Jenna Giedl placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.81) and second in the 200 free.
“Definitely, my breaststroke I felt better about,” Jenna said. “I dropped time with that.”
O’Brien, Isabella Molina, Aramilis Rivera, and Bashore raced to a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (4:40.36).
“We definitely have a good amount of strong people this year,” said Kyra Giedl, who came in third in the 200 IM and the 100 free. “My IM was stronger. I haven’t been doing the best in it, so I felt like I dropped a lot of time in it. For me, the challenge is breaststroke and freestyle.”
The Zephyrs will travel to East Stroudsburg North for their next swim meet on Jan. 28.
