WHS boys get a win

Whitehall’s boys swim team celebrated its first win of the season with an 86-82 victory over East Stroudsburg South on Jan. 14 at Whitehall.

“East Stroudsburg South came out with their best team in the 400 relay, and all we had to do was finish, and we had enough points to win the meet,” said Whitehall coach Dave Seeloff.

South took first place in the 400 free relay (3:50.35), but the Zephyrs gained second and third-place points with swims from Anthony Bloom, Griffin Werner, Glenn Kline, and Quinn Doyle (4:15.29) and Colton Reed, Joe Younes, Justin George, and Johnny Stinner (4:26.27).

South’s boys led early in the meet, 32-29, with first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 50 free.

The Zephyrs responded with second and third-place finishes in those events to keep the overall score close.

Stinner led the second-half charge against the Cavaliers with a win in the 100 butterfly (1:04.35) followed by Cameron Herring’s win in the 100 free (56.03) and Werner’s second place in the same event (1:01.73).

Whitehall took an overall lead of 66-56.

The Zephyrs were also boosted by out touching the Cavs in the 200 free relay (1:59.99) with the team of Herring, Sebastion Lora, Ali Jasim, and Zukhar Salamakha (1:59.21).

Doyle won the 100 backstroke (1:05.24) for the Zephyrs’ last individual win of the meet.

“We’re falling short on district qualifiers,” said Coach Seeloff, “but we’re a good middle team with enough bodies.”

The Zephyrs will travel to East Stroudsburg North for their next swim meet on Jan. 28.
