After a mini slump of back-to-back losses, Freedom got back on track last week with wins over Dieruff and Stroudsburg to them back on track toward clinching a district berth.
The Patriots (10-7) need to win one game over their last five games to solidify a postseason berth, but head coach Joe Stellato isn’t focused on that at the moment with so many tough games ahead of the Pates.
“We are trying not to think about it or talk about it,” said Stellato. “We know our goal is still in front of us and we control our own destiny. We do not want to add pressure to the players and just want to focus on Nazareth.”
The Pates took on Nazareth on Tuesday night past Press deadlines in a meeting between two teams with identical records looking for the same goal of punching their postseason ticket.
With Easton (4-11) the only other contest on the week for the Pates, Freedom would like to have their goal of postseason qualification checked off this week.
“I want them to play consistent basketball,” said Stellato on what he wants to see from his team down the stretch, “and how to win when we are not shooting the ball well.”
The Pates are also in the mix for an EPC tournament berth at the moment, as they’re currently tied for fifth place in the conference with four other teams that are all 7-4 in conference play.
It’s fair to say that every game across the league over the next two weeks will have ramifications on league seeding.
