January is recognized as School Director Recognition Month. Catasauqua Area School District Board of Education members were thanked for their service during the Jan. 16 meeting.
“All of our success comes from your commitment,” Patrick McNulty, Catasauqua Middle School principal, said before showing the board a slideshow prepared for the occasion.
The presentation included things the students said they were thankful for, including the teachers, iPads, lunches, field trips, coaches, lockers and more. There were also pictures, artwork and bags of sweets from the students to show their gratitude for the board members. Additionally, each board member received a key chain with their name on it.
Dr. Robert Kucharczuk, Sheckler Elementary School principal, thanked the board for its support of the students, families and community.
The Sheckler students created a video featuring representatives from each grade talking about what they are thankful for. Some of these things included the board’s generosity, leadership and time. They were grateful for their teachers and for “being treated so nice.”
The Sheckler “heartfelt thank you” also included salted caramel brownies.
Catasauqua High School Principal David Todd thanked the school board for setting a positive example of leadership, communication and support for the district students and faculty. Adyn Wellington, student representative, thanked the board for its support of the performing arts. Todd reported he would share a letter from the other student representative, David Janoski, who was sick and couldn’t attend. Additionally, the CHS Catty Works students made the board members some goodies.
Catasauqua Community Cares Program and the district also provided extra gifts for the board members.
As part of the School Director Recognition Month festivities, Superintendent Dr. Christina Lutz-Doemling noted the Pennsylvania School Boards Association had special honors to share for four of the CASD board members. Vice President Jillian Emert, Treasurer Christy Cooper and Shawn McGinley were recognized for five years of service. Getting a special recognition was President Dale Hein, who was celebrated for 15 years on the board.
Hein noted he has actually been on the board off and on since 1999 but is happy to receive special recognition for the last 15 years.
Lutz-Doemling thanked the board for exemplifying the PSBA principles for governance and leadership and for all of its work year-round in the district.
“We truly appreciate everything that you do,” she said.
Other administration and faculty members present shared their gratitude as well.
“Thank you for leading us in a direction of continued growth,” Director of Curriculum and Assessment Melissa Inselmann said.
Assistant to the Superintendent Eric Dauberman said he appreciates the board’s support, scrutiny, leadership and diligence. Business Manager Lindsey Wallace thanked the school board for their positive impact in the district.
At the end of the meeting, the board members shared their appreciation for the gifts and outpouring of support and gratitude.
“It is a pleasure to be part of such a great team for our kids,” board member Lauren Cieslack said.
