Marlene M. Hess, 88, of Coplay and formerly of Emmaus, died Jan. 12, 2025, at Whitehall Manor. She was the wife of the late William J. Hess.

Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Herbert P. and Catherine (Kacsur) Dougherty.

She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Allentown.

She worked for many years as a registered nurse, eventually retiring from Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Whitehall and was a former parishioner at St. Anne’s Church in Emmaus.

She was a dedicated volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Historical Society.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen M. with Susan and Daniel J. with Sharon; a sister, Diane Besz with Stephen; grandchildren, Amanda, Stephen Jr. with Jessica, Bryan, Gelsey Hess-Nickerson with Justin and Arrialle; three great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Olivia and Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Ann.
