East Allen reorganizes, makes 2025 appointments
East Allen Township reorganized its local government during the Jan. 6 board of supervisors meeting. Roger Unangst was re-elected as the board chair, and Mark Schwartz was re-elected to the vice presidency.
Angela Henry was appointed township secretary, and Christine Wentz was appointed township treasurer.
The board appointed all nonelected township officials, including Solicitor Joseph Piperato and Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott LLC as the township labor council. Township Special Council Robert Gundlich, Fox Rothschild, was appointed. Stanley Margle, of Margle Law, was appointed as the township zoning hearing board solicitor.
Luis Figueroa was appointed as the township emergency management coordinator, with Brent Green appointed as the deputy emergency management coordinator.
Hanover Engineering was appointed as the township engineering group. Barry Isett and Associates was appointed as the zoning officer/building code official. The alternate zoning officer is Green. The appointed alternate building code official is Gregory Kuntz, from Barry Isett and Associates.
The sewage enforcement officer board was appointed, including Jacob Schray, Scott Brown, Paul Gallagher Saba, Chris Taylor, Pam Kemecsy and Luke Eggert.
Barry Isett and Associates was appointed as the township UCC reviewer and inspections provider.
Wentz was appointed as a delegate to the Northampton County Tax Collection Commission, and Green was appointed as the alternate.
James Milot was appointed as the township’s vacancy board chairperson, which serves in the event of a vacancy on the board of supervisors and only convenes when the board fails to appoint a successor within 30 days of the vacancy.
The board filled two vacancies to the zoning hearing board. The zoning hearing board addresses zoning appeals, variances requests and special exceptions related to the township’s zoning ordinance and the state municipality planning code.
Resolution 2025-01 was approved to establish the 2025 manager’s compensation at $95,000.
Campbell, Rappold and Yurasits LLP was appointed by resolution 2025-02 to conduct the 2025 audit of the township finances with a cost to not exceed $10,000. The board also approved the 2025 fee schedule by passing resolution 2025-03.
The board approved a $1,500,000 township treasurer’s bond. Resolution 2025-04 was passed that designates all supervisors, township manager and the treasurer to serve as signatories on all township checks.
Resolution 2025-05 designates Embassy Bank for the Lehigh Valley as the township’s depositories for 2025. The board established the 2025 employee salaries and hourly rates, per the 2025 township budget.
The recommended 2025 holiday schedule for employees was approved, and the board approved the 2025 mileage rate at the IRS rate of 70 cents per mile.
The board appointed Georgiann Hunsicker as the township voting delegate to the state classification convention planned during 2025. Hunsicker was also appointed as a delegate to the Northampton County Association of Township Officials.
Unangst was appointed as the township delegate to the First Regional Compost Authority, with Hunsicker as the alternate delegate.
The board concluded the reorganization meeting by establishing the township 2025 board of supervisors meeting schedule. The board will meet the second Thursday of the month for business and the fourth Thursday of the month for the workshop — except for November and December, when the workshop meeting is not held.
A brief business meeting followed the reorganization meeting.
At the close of the meeting, East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joshua Smith thanked the board for its unwavering support of the fire department. Smith pitched the idea of holding a town hall meeting, perhaps in March, to explain to the public the goals and operations of the fire department and garner resident interest in joining the fire department.
