LHS boys hoop team on a roll
Liberty has been on a roll as of late and the Hurricanes look to keep their hot streak going with a slate of three games this week.
The ‘Canes have won six straight games since before the holiday break including wins over Freedom and Nazareth last week.
Liberty held off the Patriots 42-41 a week ago and then took away a 73-66 victory over Nazareth to cap off their week.
“I’m proud of how we have found ways to win over the last few games,” said head coach Nigel Long. “We aren’t where we want to be yet on the offensive side of the floor, however, I am proud of how we have found ways to win over the last two games. Winning is hard, especially EPC divisional games.”
The win over Nazareth (9-5) clinched a district berth for Liberty (11-3) and kept them in first place of the EPC Northampton Division.
Jake Pukszyn had a career high 28 points in the win over the Blue Eagles, to help propel the ‘Canes to their highest scoring total on the season. Jarrell Teague added 20 points, Quinn Lucas-Bishop had 12 points and Jahsi Cole contributed 11 points to give Liberty four double digit scorers for the first time this season.
After going through a stretch of only scoring 38 and 42 points respectively in wins against Easton and Freedom recently, the 73 point outburst can hopefully a sign of good things to come.
“As we enter the second half of the season, we are looking to continue to keep growing offensively with our execution,” said Long.
Liberty has three games this week with Allen (10-4) on Tuesday, East Stroudsburg South (3-10) on Thursday and a Saturday showdown against Hazleton (6-7).
Freedom (8-7) dropped both of their games from last week, falling to Liberty as mentioned above and losing to Northampton two nights later 63-33 for their most lopsided defeat of the season.
They should get back on track this week with contests against Dieruff (2-10) and Stroudsburg (2-12).
