Hurricane girls finish as runner-up

Liberty’s girls’ wrestling team continues to climb the ladder, as the Hurricanes took second place at the Penn Manor Girls’ New Years Rumble.

The Hurricanes finished second out of 33 teams, coming away with 138.5 points behind team champion Gettysburg (173.5).

Six Hurricanes medaled in the event, as Liberty had two finalists in Gracie Haflich (170) and Addysoin Munro (235).

Both ‘Canes lost in the finals unfortunately, as Haflich was pinned by Bryce Snyder of Palisades in 4:42 and Souderton’s MacKenna Atkinson pinned Munro in 1:02.

Doniya Anwari (130) was one of three Hurricanes to wrestle for third place and was the only one that came away with the win, pinning Hempfield’s Claire Beck in 1:11.

Luisyana Ortiz (136) and Kierha Castillo (124) both took fourth place.

Ellie Rumbalski (190) was the only other Hurricane to win in the medal rounds, as she pinned Penn Manor’s Madison Wagner in 4:40 to take fifth place.

Freedom participated in the Parkland Duals on Jan. 5 and finished 1-2 in the event.

The Pates lost to Northampton 46-30 in the opener and fell to Delaware Valley 60-18 in the consolation semifinals before taking seventh place with a 47-23 win over Panther Valley.
