Hawks turn corner
Before the basketball season started, Scott McClary targeted January as the time his team should start to turn the corner.
The Hawks appear to be making good on that prediction as they picked up their biggest win of the season last week with a 49-41 win over Northampton.
It was the biggest confidence booster the team needed knocking off an 8-5 Northampton team and then following it up with a 54-50 win over Easton to improve to 6-8 on the season with things looking up.
“Any win is big for us so yes, the Northampton win was really important,” said McClary. “They were 7-2 just over a week ago, so it is a good win for sure. I feel like our guys have been doing everything right, just not getting over the hump and getting that win. We needed to finish better and in the Northampton game, we did.”
The Hawks look to continue to their win streak this week with games against Emmaus (3-11), Pleasant Valley (6-7) and Harry S. Truman (5-8).
With the slate featuring a softer part of the schedule, Becahi has a chance to really get back into the mix for a district playoff spot.
“The upcoming stretch of schedule looks like opportunity on paper, but I think there are really good teams that are in a similar boat to us,” McClary said. “They are competing with the top teams well (Easton in a 38 to 36 game with Liberty for example) but they are looking at this stretch to learn how to win. Obviously, both teams can’t win so we have to work to become the team that does. I know we are improving and truly feel the guys will get rewarded, but the opponent is improving and working too, so that’s what makes it hard and fun.”
