Whitehall opens call for Hometown Heroes banners

Whitehall Township is currently accepting applications for its Hometown Heroes banners program.

For its fourth year, Whitehall is welcoming those who want to honor their township loved ones who served or are serving in the military to participate in the banner program.

“The program serves as a tribute to recognize servicemen and women native to Whitehall Township who have served or are serving our country in a branch of the military,” according to a news release posted on the township website and social media.

The banners are 30 inches wide by 60 inches tall. In addition to the honoree’s name, each banner will include his or her photo and branch and era of service. The name of the paying sponsor — family, friend or business — will also appear on the banner.

Banners will be displayed on utility poles around Whitehall for Flag Day, celebrated June 14, and continue until the township transitions into the holiday season. During the off season, banners will be stored at the township.

The cost of a banner and its fixture is $250.

“There is no guarantee as to the life of the banner, but all retired banners will be returned to the sponsor,” according to the township.

A dedication ceremony will take place at the township municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road; the date is to be determined.

Banner applications can be picked up at the municipal building. The deadline to submit applications is March 14.

Applications will only be processed with a fully completed application, photo and a check/money order payable to Whitehall Township. Mail your application to Whitehall Township, 3219 MacArthur Road Whitehall, 18052, with attention to Michele K. Dragovits, administrative coordinator.

If you have questions on the banners program, call Brandon Hibbler, bureau chief of recreation, at 610-437-5524, ext. 1135.
