Walakovits, Kids aim to keep it going

Noah Walakovits wasn’t surprised by his team’s 3-0 start this season.

The junior is among the area’s leading scorers averaging 12 points per game, and he also leads the team in assists per game (4.0) and rebounds (4.3) at the time of this writing. The Konkrete Kids have posted impressive wins over Easton (65-43), Dieruff (66-29), and Bangor (56-28) so far this season.

“I think that the season is going just as we thought it would be as far as wins and losses,” stressed Walakovits. “I do feel that we matured as individuals and as a team, spending time together on and off the court helped us build chemistry.”

However, head coach Matt Scholl didn’t expect his team to be on an initial fast track. Newcomers freshman Jake Raysley, and juniors Korbin Sollars and Leo Regec have developed sooner than expected.

Raysley has averaged 10 points per game, while Regec has contributed 9.3 per contest. Junior forward Brady Simock is averaging eight points per game, as of the writing of this story.

“Going into the season without much experience is always scary,” admitted Scholl. “Raysley, Sollars, and Regec have handled the spotlight well and overcame their nerves to play with great effort. Noah Walakovits has been getting a lot of attention for how he played this summer and he showed that he is a top player in the league.”

A recent win over Bangor on a Saturday was a big deal.

“Saturday games are always scary but we did not play Friday night and Bangor did so that was a huge advantage for us,” added Scholl. “We started fast with a 16-3 first quarter lead. Bangor hung around in the second and third quarter and were able to turn us over 12 times, a number we will have to improve on as the schedule gets tougher. Overall, we didn’t play as well as our first two games but we were able to escape with another easy win.”

“I feel like I am playing great, but there is always stuff that I am working to improve on,” beamed Walakovits. “One goal I have set for myself is to lead my team to a far run into the playoffs this year. A part of my game I think that has improved is my ability to score at every level of the court.

“It is a long season, but we’re confident we can keep this going.”
