Interact Club holds book drive

Emmaus High School’s Interact Club, a community-focused service organization, is holding a book drive for donation to students in the Allentown School District through Lehigh Valley Health Network clinics. The club will collect new or used books outside Room 216 up until Jan. 31. Students can contact Amy Kaunitz at akaunitz@eastpennsd.org with any questions or concerns regarding the book drive.

EHS will once again offer a lifeguarding course either in place of the aquatics requirement for sophomores or as an elective for juniors and seniors. Current freshmen, sophomores and juniors interested must fill out the prerequisite form on their “Class of” Schoology page as well as sign up for a pretest session.

Sessions consist of two tests including a “300-yard swim under 10 minutes and treading water for two minutes without using your hands” and will be conducted Jan. 15, 22, 23 and 31 as well as Feb. 5.

Students will be given a pass for the session they sign up for and are encouraged to direct any questions they have to any health or wellness/fitness teacher.

The EHS counseling office invites seniors applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and their families to attend a session 6 p.m. Feb. 5 in the EHS library for help completing the form. Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Higher Education Access Partner Michael Burke and a Lehigh Carbon Community College financial aid representative will also be available. Families will need copies of 2023 documents including their 1040/1040EZ/1040A etc. as well as their W2 forms and Social Security numbers. According to the counseling office, the Federal Student Aid ID should be completed online before the FAFSA completion night. Students and families should contact their counselor with any questions.

Seniors must order their cap, gown and diploma through the link on their “Class of” Schoology page by Jan. 31. Any senior interested in designing the cover for the commencement program should contact apeterson@eastpennsd.org for more details regarding the competition.

Additionally, students entering the military after high school are asked to email Principal Beth Guarriello at bguarriello@eastpennsd.org with what branch they are joining.

Schools are closed Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Marking Period 2 will end Jan. 23 for all EHS students.
