Hanover council reorganizes, prepares for new year
During the Jan. 13 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council reorganization meeting, Bruce Paulus was unanimously re-elected to another two-year term as council chair. Vice Chair Robert Heimbecker was re-elected to his position as well.
Both Paulus and Heimbecker thanked their peers for re-electing them to lead council.
“I will do my best,” Paulus added.
Paulus then presided over the next 25 resolutions — 2025-03 through 2025-27 — that were adopted by council to approve an array of individual appointments, boards and actions.
Attorney Jackson Eaton, of the Gross McGinley Law Firm, was reappointed as the township solicitor, and Kevin Chimics, of Keystone Consulting Engineers, was appointed to provide engineering services to the township. Aubrey Anderson was appointed to the position of tax collector and township clerk.
Other approvals included the salary of the township manager, the council meeting schedule and Berkheimer Associates to provide tax collection services.
Council appointed the attorney’s coverage for the township planning commission and the township zoning hearing board. The “conflicting attorneys” for the planning commission and the zoning hearing board were council appointed.
Additional appointments include Cindy Witman as building code official; Campbell, Rappold and Yurasits as township auditor; township sewage enforcement officer; the township sewage enforcement officer alternate; and the township deputy tax collector.
Council appointed Chris Spadaccia as the township emergency management coordinator. The township emergency operations plan was adopted.
Janice Lathrop was appointed to be the Hanover Township, Lehigh County, representative to the Public Library of Catasauqua board. Edgardo Velasquez was reappointed to the zoning hearing board.
A general discussion and overview for the year 2025 concluded the reorganization meeting.
Township Manager Melissa Wehr added to the discussion, saying during 2025, zoning updates will be developed with the River Central Committee, a presentation of design stages for the D&L Trail is expected to occur in February 2025, and she expressed optimism about the township having a successful 2025.
“We have a great staff, great council that listens and asks good questions,” Wehr said.
