District News: No school Jan. 20 for holiday

Whitehall-Coplay School District will be closed Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The second marking period ends Jan. 24. Report cards will be available starting Jan. 31.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, be sure to communicate with your child and the teacher.

The regular school board meeting takes place 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in the large group instruction room at Whitehall High School.

This month, there will be an important workshop for 12th-grade students and their families. The counseling office will be offering financial aid workshops to students and families who are interested in receiving assistance with completing the FAFSA — Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Families interested can choose to sign up for one of two sessions, set for 6-8 p.m. Jan. 29 or 8-10 a.m. Jan. 30. These sessions will be taking place in the LGI room at WHS. The student and a parent should attend together and bring a computer.

Before attending this workshop, a student must create an FSA ID. For instructions on how to do this or sign up for one of these sessions, see the high school’s weekly updates or visit the website.

A reminder for seniors: WHS scholarships are open. To apply for free scholarships for college/technical schools, apply before Feb. 18 when the application period closes.

The Zephyr Elementary School yearbook sale is underway. Yearbooks are $25, and the deadline to order is April.

WHS students are ready to help. If you are aware of community service opportunities, consider reaching out to the school staff. Students have been a tremendous help at Zephyr Elementary.

WCSD is excited to share the new mobile app is available for download. Visit the app store on your mobile device and search for WCSD Zephyrs. You can find the following information in the app: customized news, calendar, school, notifications, lunch menus and much more.

Also coming soon is the mobile app direct integration with PowerSchool (grade book, attendance information, etc.) and Traversa (transportation information).

Parents/guardians, make sure you have logged into PowerSchool and completed/updated forms for the 2024-25 academic year. The forms are communication preference, information to review and student contacts. It is very important this information is kept up to date.

If you need any help accessing the parent portal, contact your child’s school office.

As a reminder, early pickup or absence communication should go through Powerschool, a phone call to the office or through the attendance email.

Senior class dues have been posted to myschoolbucks. Senior are responsible for their class dues to cover all the general senior class activities throughout the entire 2024-25 school year. Seniors will not be permitted to attend graduation or purchase prom tickets without paying the senior class dues.
