Coplay: Christmas tree pickup will end Jan. 17 in Coplay Borough

The last Christmas tree pickup is Jan. 17. Trees must be clean — with no tinsel, ornaments or hooks. If the tree is not clean, the tree will not be picked up.

Also, garbage cans in excess of 30 gallons will not be collected. If you have large items, call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to schedule pickups of items such as sofas, plastic-encased mattresses, chairs, dressers, etc. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., is planning a chicken potpie pickup dinner Jan. 18. The pickup time is 4-5:30 p.m.

The menu includes chicken potpie, creamed cabbage or applesauce, roll and dessert. Freewill donations will be accepted to help defray costs.

Preorders were required by Jan. 10. Call Karen at 610-653-2816 for questions on your order.

Coplay Sports will be holding sign-ups for baseball and softball noon-2 p.m. Feb. 8 and March 1 and 5:30-7 p.m. Jan. 29 and Feb. 12 and 26 at Coplay Sports Den, 666 Potter Terrace.

Online sign-ups started Jan. 6 on coplaysports.org.

Baseball is for ages 5-15, and softball is for ages 5-8.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., is planning its third annual St. Peter Rocks Out Mardi Gras party 5:30-10 p.m. March 1 in the church social hall. The event includes a New Orleans-menu buffet dinner, beer, soda, water, coffee, tea, beads, masks, prizes, indoor parade, music by the Josef Kroboth Band and dancing. The party is BYOB.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

Explorer Post 101 works to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12- to 21-year-olds. Join the new Explorer Club for youths age 12-14.

Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.

Hometown Hero Banners applications are available at the Coplay Borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters, and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

Coplay American Legion Post 426 has an special mailbox in front of the Post at 134 S. Second St. Worn-out American flags can be deposited into the mailbox.

To join the Coplay Legion as a social member, call 610-262-7556. Social membership is open to all — veteran or not.

Looking for an inexpensive but great workout? Aerobic exercise is held 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium.

Bring dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout. There is a small cost.

Coplay Athletic Club is seeking new and renewed memberships. The gym is located on the second floor of the municipal building.
