Salisbury High School athletes are starting off the new year strong, with several students performing well in both wrestling and swimming.
Over the weekend of Jan. 4, the wrestling team competed in a multi-school tournament and brought home several top finishes. The outcomes were impressive: Jarrod Blunt and Nate Tone both earned first place in their respective weight classes. Jacob Spinner and Jordan Tocci followed with impressive third place finishes, while Michael Segeta and Colton Tone secured fourth place. Jacob Watson rounded out the results, finishing in seventh place. These achievements highlight the strength and determination of the Salisbury wrestling team as they continue to push through a competitive season.
The swim team is also making an impact in Salisbury sports as they aim to qualify for districts once again this year. The team has been putting in long hours at practice and their hard work is paying off. Meredith Kelley, a two-year returner, shared her thoughts on what makes the team special. “I love the people I swim with,” Kelley said, emphasizing the bond the swimmers share both in and out of the pool.
The swim team’s connection is also reflected in their creative and fun posts on Instagram. Their account, found under the username salisburyswim_, shares updates and fun photos before each meet. This past Friday, the girls team celebrated a victory, defeating Allen 89-73.
Outside of athletics, Salisbury’s Class of 2027 advisory is working on a new fundraiser. Sophomores are currently selling Gertrude Hawk chocolate bars. The funds raised will go toward future class events and activities. This is one of many fundraising efforts the sophomores have planned. Students and staff alike are encouraged to support the fundraiser by purchasing a chocolate bar and enjoying a sweet treat in the process. Class President Adrienne Kipp is leading the charge for this initiative.
As Salisbury moves deeper into the winter season, both students and staff are finding ways to stay active and engaged. With standout athletic performances and successful school events, it’s clear that the start of 2025 is off to an exciting and positive start for SHS.
