NMIH SPEAKER: Australian photojournalist Dane Rhys shares his experiences photographing workers at the last anthracite mine in Western Europe Jan. 26 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the National Museum of Industrial History. Rhys will present images of the miners at the Aberpergwm Anthracite Mine in South Wales, discuss the challenges of shooting medium format color film in lowlight underground conditions, and explore the historical significance of the mine and town. He will also share a current mine map and samples of the various anthracite products produced.

Rhys, originally from Australia and now based in the United States, is a freelance photojournalist. After leaving a career in the gold mining industry, he began documenting industrial workers and their communities, focusing on deindustrialization and the changing energy sector.

SCHOOL AUDITIONS: The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts will be holding auditions for the 2025-26 school year on Jan. 31, Feb. 14 and Feb. 15. Any student entering ninth, 10th, 11th or 12th grade who resides in Pennsylvania is eligible to audition.
