In a news release dated Jan. 3, the Pennsylvania State Police released its crash and enforcement report for the 2025 New Year’s holiday travel period.
From Dec. 31, 2024, to Jan. 2, state police investigated 425 crashes, resulting in one death and 68 injuries, according to authorities.
Impaired driving was a factor in 31 of these crashes, according to the news release.
During the three-day period, troopers arrested 254 people for driving under the influence and issued the following citations:
•2,727 for speeding.
•383 for not wearing a seat belt.
•50 for not securing children in safety seats.

In 2024, New Year’s weekend crashes totaled 336 with five fatal crashes, five people killed, 68 people injured, 47 DUI crashes and one DUI fatal crash.
In 2025, New Year’s weekend crashes totaled 425 with one fatal crash, one person killed, 68 people injured, 31 DUI crashes and no DUI fatal crashes.
In 2025 New Year’s Weekend enforcement efforts, state police made 254 DUI arrests, issued 2,727 speeding citations, 50 child seat citations, 383 seat belt citations and 10,098 other citations.
In 2024, state police made 326 DUI arrests, issued 3,833 speeding citations, 56 child seat citations, 344 seat belt citations and 8,127 other citations.
“These statistics cover only those incidents investigated by the state police and do not include incidents to which other law enforcement agencies responded,” according to the news release.
