PHS girls wrestlers get second at tourney

The Parkland High School girls wrestling team had a 10-day layoff since its last competition, a 42-36 victory in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The Trojans then broke for the Christmas holiday and got back on the mat this past weekend at the Governor Mifflin Girls Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Trojans finished second overall out of 21 teams with 168 points. J.P. McCaskey won the tournament with 195 team points. Parkland was the lone EPC team at the event.

Natalie Deutsch had the most successful weekend out of the group, winning the championship at 155 pounds. She had three consecutive pins in the quarterfinals, semifinals and then championship match.

Saige Rittenhouse recorded a second place overall finish at 118 pounds. Ella Hesener, Abigail Taylor and Angelina Spachman ended the weekend third in their respective classes at 106, 130 and 142 pounds, respectively.

Lily Snook was fourth at 112 pounds and both Elysa Lacerda and Lizkarla Grullon Vasquez finished in fifth place at 100 and 190 pounds, respectively. Leila Palmieri was sixth at 136 and Payton Ocasio and Teagan Tremba were seventh overall at 112 and 124, respectively.

Parkland will host its l dual tournament at Parkland High School this Sunday. It’s next dual match will come in conference action at Emmaus on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
