Parkland girls basketball starts 6-0 in league play
The Parkland High School girls basketball team entered Christmas on a hot streak, winning six of its first seven games of the 2024-25 regular season with the lone loss coming in a nonconference game at Wyomissing two weeks ago.
The Trojans are 6-0 in the conference, but head coach Ed Ohlson, while happy with the start, knows there are challenges ahead.
“I think the season is going just as we expected it to,” said Ohlson. “We knew we had some winnable games early on and now we’re coming onto a tough stretch of our schedule. If we defend and rebound just a little bit better than we have these first few games, we should be fine going into January and beyond.”
Parkland played two games last weekend in the Wilson West Lawn Holiday Tournament at Wilson High School on Friday and Saturday afternoons. The Trojans opened the tournament with a 36-33 overtime victory over the host Bulldogs on Friday, but then dropped their second game, 38-27 against Abington Heights.
“It’s always good to get out of the normal grind of conference games and see different teams,” Ohlson said. “It’s also fun for the girls to play over the holiday break to be around each other and still get work and experience to help us achieve our goals at the end of the season.”
In the win over WWL, Parkland held the Bulldogs to two points in the overtime period and was able to get over the top. Delaney Chilcote tallied a game-high 16 points and Addison Fritzinger added 10 points.
Against Abington, Parkland held a 21-20 halftime lead, but only scored seven points the rest of the way, including just two in the fourth quarter. Chilcote finished with seven points to lead the way and Fritzinger contributed five. Aneri McGalla recorded six points for the Trojans.
Parkland returns to action in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference with a busy weekend, two road games in two days as the Trojans are at East Stroudsburg South on Friday night and then have a quick turnaround and are at Nazareth Saturday afternoon.
