Hoderewski, Zephyrs aim to keep rolling

Seth Hoderewski realizes how important chemistry and camaraderie are on a team.

He certainly can sense it with his Whitehall teammates, as the Zephyrs are off to a 10-2 start.

“I think our team is off to a good start,” said the junior earlier this season. “We have some guys maturing as we go deeper into the season. Our group of guys have been around each other since we were kids whether it was Coplay or Hokey basketball.

“We’re a tight group that has people step up when we need them.”

Hoderewski noted the team has leaned on 6-7 senior center A.J. Hines as well as perimeter players senior Mason Roberts and sophomore Tanner Dogmanits.

Head coach Jeff Jones is confident Hoderewski is on track or a solid season. Hoderewski had 14 points, sinking five of six free throws in the fourth quarter in a recent victory over Bethlehem Catholic.

“He’s giving us what we need him to bring,” stated Jones earlier this season. “He’s averaging 11 points per game (at the time of this writing). I believe that as the season progresses, he’ll score even more.”

Jones has seen his team find its path after a few slow starts. Primarily, they have rebounded with their defense.

“In two games against Stroudsburg and Bethlehem Catholic, we struggled in the first half,” he stressed recently. “In our third quarter against Stroudsburg, we outscored them, 16-2, and against Bethlehem Catholic, it was 22-7.

“We had good three-quarter court pressure that has worked for us lately.”

With a tight-knit group, Hoderewski envisions success down the road.

“We run on a high motor, and we thrive to be at the top of our division,” he said. “We believe we can be right where we were last year and even better.”

The Zephs 10-2 mark as of early this week has them at the top of the 6A division with a .786 rating, which is just ahead of Pocono Mountain East, which is also 10-2.
