Fugazzotto wins BHWC title

The Northwestern Lehigh wrestling team crowned one champ and saw one other wrestler place at last weekend’s Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic at Liberty High School.

Luke Fugazzotto won all five of his matches, with two coming by fall, to take the 189-pound title.

After a pair of first-period pins to start the event, the 2024 state silver medalist won his quarterfinal match by technical fall, 17-0, before a 13-3 decision over Freedom’s Noah MacIlroy in the semifinals.

In the title bout, Fugazzotto beat defending Class 3A 172-pound district champ Brayden Zuercher (Nazareth), 4-1 for the title.

The Tigers’ Colby Townley also placed at the tournament.

Townley pinned his first two opponents in the 145-pound weight class before falling in the semifinal round then losing a consolation match to drop to the fifth-place bout.

Townley earned a 1-0 decision over Brady Colville (Delaware Valley) in the fifth-place bout.

The Tigers finished 16th at the tournament, which includes mostly Class 3A teams. Saucon Valley (fourth place) and Southern Lehigh (25th place) were the only other Colonial League schools at the tournament.
