Emmaus girls finish second at Holiday Invite

Emmaus swimmers took part in the Cumberland Valley Holiday Invite recently in Mechanicsburg. The Hornet girls team came home with a second-place finish in the team standings behind host Cumberland Valley.

The annual event featured swimmers from six different schools all competing against one another.

Freshman Keilani Silva took the lone event win for Emmaus when she posted a personal best time of 53.96 in the 100-yard freestyle by edging sophomore Piper Heyman of Boiling Springs by 0.53 to take first place. Hornet sophomore Mabry Krause finished third in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 54.71.

The same three swimmers took the top spots in the 50-yard freestyle, but this time it was Heyman getting the top spot with Silva and Krause both turning in personal best times for second and third, respectively. Krause had a time of 24.91 and Silva posted a 25.14 for Emmaus.

Natalie Cheplick finished less than a second behind Souderton’s Morgan Goldcamp in the 200-yard Individual Medley (IM) to take second for Emmaus. Cheplick’s time of 2:17.45 was a season best for the senior.

In relay events, Veronica Karboski was on two teams that took second place finishes at Cumberland Valley High School when she swam in both the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays. The Emmaus team of Karboski, Cheplick, Silva, and Sriya Reddy finished exactly one second off the pace set by a foursome of Cumberland Valley swimmers with a time of 1:40.87 in the 200 relay and in the 400, was just 0.90 behind a Cumberland Valley team, posting a time of 3:41.83. That team consisted of Karboski, Krause, Silva, and Liz Mazzetti.

Cumberland Valley finished with a team score of 562, Emmaus (441) was second and Souderton (425) finished third. Central Dauphin, Boiling Springs, and Chambersburg also took part in the event.

Everybody jumps back into the pool Saturday when Emmaus (4-1 EPC, 4-4 overall) takes part in the prestigious New Year’s Challenge event at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. On Tuesday, Emmaus will host Easton (4-0, 4-0) in an EPC dual meet.
