CHS boys team looks to string together wins
Through his team’s first seven games, Catasauqua head boys’ basketball coach Eric Snyder offered that his team easily could have been 0-7 instead of their 2-5 slate. As of early this week, they are 3-6 overall.
Consequently, the Rough Riders easily could have had a 5-2 or 6-1 record.
It has been that kind of season.
The Roughies have lost games to Pleasant Valley by one point, Saucon Valley (one point), Bangor (two points), Wilson (three points), and Southern Lehigh (four points in overtime).
In their most recent action, Catty beat Bethlehem Christian, but they then lost to host Pleasant Valley in their tournament, 47-46, on a jumper with 11 seconds left in the game.
“We had our chance in the final seconds, but we didn’t get the shot we wanted,” said Catasauqua head coach Eric Snyder. “Our players call us the best 2-6 team around.
“We have been right there in our games this season, and we had leads in all of them except the Bangor and Northwestern games.”
Fellow junior Hamaad Jenkins added 16 against Pleasant Valley, and he has been among the Roughies’ leading scorers all season. Both Pujols and Jenkins have formed a solid backcourt.
Seniors Matt Fotta and Jeremiah Cofie continue to be a force down low for the Roughies.
“Frankie makes us go, and he plays hard,” said Snyder. “Hamaad has been shooting better, and he can be a big factor for us.
“We like to pound the ball into Fotta. Cofie is probably the hardest working kid on the team, and you can see some more good things from him.”
Snyder has been pleased with his team’s offensive performances, but he believes his team woes still some from being able to finish games.
“It’s about pride and poise,” stressed Snyder. “We need to have some more poise down the stretch of games.
“We need to have some more discipline. We have to focus more about getting the wins in games. We can be as good as any team in the league. We just have to be able to put everything together.”
Snyder is confident the Roughies can reverse their early season slide, beginning with next week’s play.
The Roughies traveled to Pen Argyl Jan. 3 and won 59-36, and they then were scheduled to host Salisbury on Jan. 6 and Palisades Jan. 9.
“We have some games coming up that should be in our favor,” he said. “We could put a nice stretch of games together in the next two weeks.”
