Michael Zapach

of Limeport

Michael Zapach, 84, of Limeport, died peacefully Jan. 2, 2025, at Cedarbrook Nursing Home – Fountain Hill surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Barbara Catherine (Walbert) Zapach. They were married 63 years. Born in Hazleton he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Julia (Hopko) Zapach.

While attending Southern Lehigh High School, he was a star player on the varsity basketball team, leading them to many wins throughout the season. He also loved to play baseball as pitcher, catcher and outfielder with Southern Lehigh High School and later joined St. Michaels Church League.

He served his country in the Army at Fort Jackson, S.C., then in the reserves. He attended Delaware Valley College studying agriculture but left to help run a family feed business at the feed mill in Limeport. He later started his career in agriculture with Agway. He then worked as general manager for Montgomery-Bucks Farm Bureau, retiring after 25 years.

Not ready for retirement, he went to work for Winfield United and legacy companies for another 25 years. He opened their first facility in Hanover, then moved to a new location in York. He also spent some time in Lyons, N.Y., managing the entire northeast division for Winfield.

Growing up on a farm, he was very dedicated to agriculture and helping farmers reach their goals in helping to feed and clothe the world. He served as president of PennAg, advocating for current agriculture and future farmers by supporting the growth and promotion of Pennsylvania agribusiness.

He enjoyed playing golf, cooking and spending time gathered around the table with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also loved to spend time with his wife sitting by the lake in Florida watching the boats and seaplanes.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Melissa Hein; son, Stephen and his wife, Stefanie; grandchildren, Michael J., Tyler and Ashley, Zachary (Kaity) and Joshua Hein (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Jack Hein. He was predeceased by his son, John (Donna); six siblings.

He and his family are especially grateful to the entire staff of nurses, aides, doctors and administrators at Cedarbrook Nursing Home – Fountain Hill. Their excellence in compassionate care was experienced every day. Lastly, the family would like to thank Family Pillars Hospice and the outpouring of love and compassion in helping him in his final days.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus. A viewing will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at the funeral home.
