District News: ‘Wizard of Oz’ set for Jan. 11, 12

Northampton Area Middle School Drama Club will perform “The Wizard of Oz” 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 11 and 2 p.m. Jan. 12 in the Northampton Area High School auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave.

Tickets are available online. Seniors, students and military are $8. General admission is $10. Children under age 5 may attend free of charge.

Ticket sales will close noon Jan. 9, but will be available at the door for cash or check only. Please bring a copy of your online order confirmation.

NAMS is currently recruiting sixth-grade students for KAB — Kids All Belong — for the 2024-25 academic year. If your sixth-grade student is interested in signing up to participate in KAB, have them complete the Google form on Schoology. To be a member of KAB, students need to be passing all their classes and follow the code of conduct and SMART expectations.

The group is looking for students who can be positive climate changers in the building. KAB students will help to create a school climate where “kids all belong”; design schoolwide activities, such as unity day, pink shirt day and 143 Day; welcome new students to NAMS; plan new student socials; and assist with fifth-grade transition activities.

There will be no school Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Jan. 21 will be the end of the second marking period. Report cards will be available on Sapphire starting Jan. 31.

The Northampton Area School District facilities committee will meet in public sessions 6-7 p.m. Jan. 13, 16 and 20 in the auditorium at NAHS. Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Volunteers for the NAMS Food Pantry program express their thanks to everyone who contributed to the pantry for Christmas. The generosity allowed the program to provide 20 students (18 families) with Christmas dinner, gifts, cookies and a large box of food and treats to be enjoyed over the holiday break.

CONTRIBUTED PHOTOSNorthampton Area High School student and DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) member Brett Bastian works the refreshment table during the annual Frosty 5-K — which raised $5,129, with $2,650 going to Keystone Diabetic Kids Camp — held Nov. 24, 2024, at Saylor Park, 245 N. Second St., Coplay. This money will be used to send newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic children to KDKC for free. Most of the money raised came from registrants and sponsorships. Some sponsors included State Farm and St. Luke’s Pediatrics.
