CWSA OKs annual spending plan, with no rate hike
Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority Chairman James Hahn brought the 2025 CWSA budget to a vote during the Dec. 19, 2024, meeting, the last for the year.
The budget was approved. There will be no rate increase.
CWSA General Manager Matt Harleman reminded the board the final budget included a line item for a boiler replacement, which was not in the preliminary version.
In other business, Harleman mentioned CWSA met with Brown and Brown Insurance Dec. 16, 2024. There will be a necessary 4.7% increase in those costs for 2025.
Harleman reported a letter was received from Keystone Consulting Engineers requesting payment to Mr. Rehab Inc. for work performed in October 2024 in the amount of $144,014. This reportedly does not appear on the current invoice register.
Harleman recommended it be added to the register. The total bid accepted for this project was $192,011.
Harleman spoke of a letter received from Industrial Appraisal saying CWSA has an outstanding balance of $320. Industrial Appraisal keeps an inventory of CWSA buildings and equipment. This item also does not appear on the current invoice register, and Harleman suggested it be added.
Both of the newly added invoice register items were voted on, approved and carried.
Votes were cast to retain 2024 appointments for 2025, including Davison and McCarthy Law Firm; T&M Engineering; Buckno, Lisicky and Company; and Brown and Brown Insurance. All motions were approved.
The CWSA board approved 2025 donations of $1,000 each to the Whitehall-Coplay School District Scholarship Program, focused on trade school training, and the Coplay American Legion.
Hahn read a letter received from Anita Smith, the CWSA business manager who retired after 15 years of service. She thanked all for the parting gift.
CWSA will continue its monthly meetings in 2025 on the third Thursday of each month starting 7 p.m.
