Try to adhere to these Allen Township winter weather practices.
Clear your trash and recycling collection spot. Shovel or plow around your containers and sprinkle some salt or sand to keep ice at bay.
Do not place bags or containers in the street, and do not place your waste cans on top of snow piles. Melting or shifting snow can cause the cans to fall over and spill. During winter, be mindful of where you place white garbage bags to avoid them being overlooked in the snow.
Missed pickups happen. The timing for each house pickup is not fixed, and unforeseen circumstances may cause delays. Contact J.P. Mascaro and Sons at 1-800-333-4624 or the township office building at 610-262-7012 to report missed pickups.
Bring cans in after collection as soon as possible to avoid them being blown away or obstructing snow removal operations. Make sure all trash is bagged properly to keep loose trash from being blown into the street should your bins blow over.
Poor weather may cause trash and recycling pickup delays.
Move vehicles from the road during snow emergencies. Parked vehicles impede snow and ice removal or create hazardous conditions. Remove cars, trailers, boats or campers, basketball hoops, etc., from the street to ensure proper snow removal and reduce safety concerns for the plow drivers.
Sidewalks should be cleared or covered with salt within 24 hours after the snow and ice event. Remove snow from 3 feet in all directions around the fire hydrant on your property so it is visible and easily accessible to connect a fire hose.
Snow emergencies will be posted on WFMZ.
Call public works at 610-262-7012, ext. 105, for road hazard information, or visit the township website at allentownship.org.
