LUAG hosts ‘play date’ for area artists

Organized by Lehigh Valley-based artists Brandon Dominguez and Elise Schaffer, the inaugural Lehigh Valley Artist Meetup was hosted Dec. 19 in the lower gallery at the Lehigh University Art Galleries (LUAG), 420 E. Packer Ave., Bethlehem.

Surrounded by artwork from the university’s permanent collection, a large turnout of creatives, young and older, enjoyed a ‘play date’ type of experience where they participated in hands-on art making, networking or just hanging out. They also enjoyed light refreshments along with the camaraderie.

Among the artists drawn to the meetup were Kutztown University art students Lainie Walter from King of Prussia, Emily Olafson from Birdsboro and Jasmine Thompson from Lancaster. Bethlehem-based digital artist Christopher Viera joined them as they had fun doodling on brown craft paper supplied by LUAG.

Attendees were given information on the LUAG’s upcoming “Here & Now: LUAG Celebrates 100 Years with 100 Local Artists” exhibit scheduled for 2025.

The next Lehigh Valley Artist Meetup will be hosted at The Alternative Gallery, 707 N. Fourth St., Allentown Jan. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, visit luag.lehigh.edu.
