Supervisors meet to reorganize in Upper Milford and Lower Milford townships Jan. 6

It’s that time again.

The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors and the Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will each reorganize Jan. 6.

The Lower Milford board will meet 6:30 p.m. for reorganization at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road. A regular meeting will follow the reorganization.

Upper Milford supervisors will meet 7 p.m. at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St.

Township offices in both municipalities are closed Jan. 1 for the New Year’s holiday.

Lower Milford Township residents may want to mark their calendars for some upcoming events at the Southern Lehigh Library.

On Jan. 2, snow-themed games, activities and crafts will be offered in the program “Snow Much Fun.” Designed for children ages 4 and older the free family-friendly event will be held 1-2 p.m. at the library, 3200 Preston Lane.

The library will welcome Lego fans to a free build 11 a.m. to noon Jan. 3. The event is designed for builders 6 years and older and completed structures will be displayed in the library.

Photographers ages 16 and older and of all skill levels are welcome to enter the annual photography show at the library scheduled Jan. 13 to April 4. Entries are to be delivered to the library 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 11. This is not a juried art show and all genres are accepted. Entries will be accepted first come, first served. Visit the library website, www.solehipl.org, for details.

Upper Milford Township residents who are canine fans may want to participate in “Books & Barks” 6:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 to read with dog ambassadors of the Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus. Readers may bring their favorite book to share or select a book from the library list.

The Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs “provide comfort and companionship to people who are ill or disabled as well as to the general public,” according to the library website. All ages are welcome. Visit the library website, www.emmauspl.org, for details.

For those looking for volunteer opportunities in the new year, please check the websites of your respective township.

For example, Upper Milford Township is looking for volunteers for vacant committee slots. Applications are available through the township website, www.uppermilford.net.

Lower Milford Township offers a list of vacancies available on commissions and boards in the township on its public notices page on the website www.lowermilford.org.

Also, consider volunteering for communitywide events in both townships such as the Earth Day/Spring cleanup days, the Lower Milford Township Fall Festival and the spring plant sale at The Seed Farm scheduled May 10 and 11 at the farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road.

Lastly, Lehigh County reportedly ended its burn ban Dec. 16, 2024; however, please continue to practice caution.
