Standoff

Fountain Hill police arrested two men following a robbery and shootout with officers Christmas Eve.

Borough police responded to a burglar alarm at the Broadway Fountain Hill Pharmacy around 9:08 p.m. and were soon informed of a second alarm. An officer on the scene reported he saw two armed men in the building, one of whom allegedly pointed a gun at police, who opened fire.

Fire was returned, with two shots penetrating an occupied home nearby. A standoff ensued and the men allegedly refused to exit the pharmacy.

Eventually surrendering, Miguel Martinez, 56, of Allentown and David Vasquez, 33, of Bethlehem, were taken into custody and remanded to Lehigh County Jail.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan said Vasquez allegedly was the shooter but no one was hurt.

Martinez and Vasquez are each charged with alleged burglary, theft, reckless endangerment, theft and a number of firearm possession infractions, and are under $750,000 bail.
