Samurai academy offers martial arts programs for all ages

If you are seeking a fun activity that can build confidence, improve overall health and help reach full potential for you, your child or grandchild, consider martial arts.

High-quality martial arts programs are offered at Lehigh Valley Samurai Academy, 2010 Eberhart Road, Whitehall. The former Aikido Masters Self Defense Academy rebranded as Lehigh Valley Samurai Academy Nov. 9, 2024, after 25 years in the area. Lehigh Valley Samurai Academy recently offered two free weeks of classes to a select number of people to celebrate the rebranding.

Owner Soke-Dai David Nemeroff brings 45 years of martial arts experience and holds black belts in several different martial arts. He created a positive learning environment free from aggressive attitudes. The academy reflects the ideals, virtues and undying spirit of the samurai, such as courage, compassion, honor, duty, loyalty and respect.

Nemeroff said he wants to continue providing a place where people can come to learn and feel like part of a family.

Several traditional martial arts, including kempo karate (blocking and striking), Japanese jujitsu (hip throws and grappling) and proper use of the Japanese samurai sword, are offered at the academy. Nemeroff also offers aikido, which is an effective self-defense system that uses the force of the opponent to apply throws, joint locks and takedowns. It is a nonviolent defensive style that urges restraint and respect toward all.

“We have helped hundreds of students to successfully grow and evolve into stronger, more positive individuals, and we continue to strive to help all of our students reach the goal of black belt excellence and guide them to the healthy, enjoyable life they all deserve,” Nemeroff said.

Youngsters as young as age 5 can train in numerous martial arts styles. In addition to kempo, jujitsu and Japanese samurai sword training, the academy also offers an elite warrior program. Adults of any age can join and train.

Classes are offered five days a week, and there is flexibility in attendance and respect toward students. Lehigh Valley residents can experience the culture and many benefits of Lehigh Valley Samurai Academy’s unique martial arts curriculum.
