Ralph M. Hoffman

Ralph M. Hoffman, 92, from Northampton, died on Dec. 21, 2024, in his residence.

He and his wife, Jean M. (Miller) Hoffman, were married 66 years in June 2024.

Born Dec. 25, 1931, in Northampton, he was the son of the late Ralph G. and Susanna E. (Haberern) Hoffman.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era earning the rank of sergeant.

He was a laborer at the former Beatrice Cheese, Whitehall, for 10 years before retiring in 1994.

Before that, he was a repairman at the former Universal Atlas Cement Company, Northampton, for 32 years.

Throughout his adult life, he also worked as a bartender for his mother, the owner of the former Sue’s Place, Northampton.

Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member and former council member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, where he taught Sunday School, and was the unofficial photographer and historian of the church.

He was a member of Keenagers, Laurys Station, and American Legion Post 353, Northampton.

He was a life member of the Alliance Fire Company, Northampton.

An avid fan of the Yankees, Notre Dame football, and the Cleveland Browns, he also loved playing card games.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children Kevin M. Hoffman at home, Sharon M. Galetta and her husband, Steven, of Lansdale; sister Verna Chandick of Northampton; and grandchildren Stephanie M. and Andrew M. Galetta.

He was predeceased by brothers Stanley, John, Alvin and Charles Hoffman.

His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Jan. 10 in St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station.

The Rev. Dr. James T. Gottwald will be officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 10-11 a.m. Friday in the church narthex.
