SAUCON VALLEY NEWS by Zara Ortiz

Senior guard and four-year starter Jack Robertson has become the 14th player in Saucon Valley HS history to reach 1,000 points and the first since Mike Kane in 2016.

The game Dec. 18 at Northwestern Lehigh was a thriller, with Robertson entering the game needing 11 points to hit 1,000 points. With 3:19 minutes left, Robertson sank a free throw, ultimately hitting his 1,000 point goal. The game was briefly stopped to celebrate this achievement. He passed the ball to his father Reggie before receiving congratulations and celebrating the moment with his mother, Tara, and his sisters, Hannah and Hailey.

The foul shot made the score 37-33 in the third quarter. With 2:26 left Robertson made a 3-pointer to lead the score 40-38, but these were Saucon’s last points for over nine minutes. Northwestern Lehigh scored the next 21 points before the Panthers broke the scoring drought with a bank shot by Peter Albano with 1:22 remaining in the fourth quarter. The nonconference game ended with Northwestern Lehigh (2-0) beating visiting Saucon Valley, 63-45.

The game six days prior to that one at Saucon was nearly as memorable, with another outstanding performance from Robertson. In that game against Catasauqua, Saucon Valley rallied back from a 14-point deficit. With eight seconds left on the clock, Robertson drove down the right side of the court and shot a layup over Catty’s Matt Fotta that went off the glass and rolled around the rim before dropping into the basket. After many timeouts, a Catty shot at the buzzer fell short and Saucon had claimed the 49-48 victory.
