Warsing takes third at state championship

Throughout this year’s high school tennis season, Parkland’s Alexandria Warsing had an impressive ride, and she enjoyed every minute along the way.

The junior was the District 11 Class 3A champion and the East Penn Conference (EPC) Most Valuable Player. She capped her season with a third-place finish at the recent PIAA championships.

Her team also had an outstanding season as the Trojans went undefeated for the third straight season and captured their fourth consecutive District 11 Class 3A title. It proved to be another banner year on many fronts.

For Warsing, however, there were plenty of memories.

She won her two opening round matches at states before she fell to eventual champion Addison Lindsay of Blue Mountain, 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinal round. She then beat District 1 runner up Brianna Litvan, a Downingtown East freshman, 6-0, 6-1 in the third place match.

“Singles went really well, and I wish I would have performed better in the semifinals,” said Warsing about her state experience. “But I turned it around and played really well for the third-place medal.

During the season, Warsing relied on her prior experiences to help guide her through this past season, as well as the support from her teammates.

“The season for me was extremely exciting,” said Warsing. “I overcame some challenging matches in districts to get first place, after attaining second place my freshman and sophomore year.

“The team’s season went awesome as well. We ended undefeated for the third straight season, and won districts for the fourth straight year. It was incredible to be a part of such an amazing group of girls.”

Head coach Mike Hingston knew Warsing would have a good showing at states.

“She played inspired tennis,” said Hingston. “She also represented our district like a true champion. Coaches and spectators throughout the state were very impressed with her performance.”

Along with Warsing, Aarohi Vaze and Kiana Miles were named EPC first-team all-stars. They also were EPC tournament second doubles champions; Sonia Lee and Kate Gilchrist were EPC Tournament third doubles silver medalists and second-team EPC all-stars; and Belle Mattson and Riley Zangari were EPC tournament fourth doubles silver medalists at 4th Doubles and EPC third-team all-stars.

Overall, the team finished 20-1, won the EPC league championship, the EPC tournament championship, and were the District 11 Class 3A team champions.

Hingston credited a total team effort for their success.

“Our team chemistry evolved in a positive way incrementally from match to match,” added Hinchman. “We were able to play our best tennis when it mattered the most. I attribute our success in large part to the amazing leadership provided by our seniors as they helped to guide our younger players through the grind of postseason play.”

Boosted by a steady stream of support, Warsing already is anxious for next season.

“We were given so much support by each other, the parents, and our coaches,” she stressed. “The season was a blast, and I am heartbroken that it’s over. However, I am always looking forward to the next challenge that awaits me.”
