The Northwestern Lehigh wrestling team got a late start to its dual meet season.

The Tigers have won their first three matches of the 2024-25 campaign, including Colonial League victories over Northern Lehigh and Palisades and a nonleague win over Freedom.

Last Friday Northwestern hosted Freedom and dealt the Patriots their first loss of the season, 35-31.

Three Tigers pinned their opponents as Weston Killar (114), Trent Croll (139) and Vinnie Fugazzotto (172) all registered first-period falls. The winners also picked up bonus points from Braydon Uricchio (127) and Luke Fugazzotto (189), who both contributed major decisions.

The Tigers first dual meet of the season came back on Dec. 17 when they cruised to a 48-25 win over Palisades.

The Tigers got pins from Weston Killar (114), Colby Townley (145), Hunter Greenwalt (160) and Vinnie Fugazzotto (172). Northwestern also picked up 24 points on four Pirate forfeits.

The Tigers first official competition of the season came on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Catasauqua Rough Rider Invitational.

While several members of the wrestling team were still playing for the Tiger football team that weekend, the remaining wrestlers who competed at Catty helped the team to a fourth-place finish.

Townley (145) and Luke Fugazzotto (189) both took first place in their weight class at the tournament, while Weston Killar (114) finished second and both Trent Croll (139) and Vinnie Fugazzotto (172) posted third-place finishes.

Logan Uricchio (107) and Braydon Uricchio (133) finished fourth in their weight classes.

Heading into the Christmas break, Northwestern is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Colonial League matches. The Tigers reside atop the league and District 11 Class 2A standings.

Northwestern will head to the Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic at Liberty High School this weekend to compete against some of the Lehigh Valley’s top teams as well as a few other from around the state and beyond.

The new year will see the Tigers take travel to the Parkland Duals on Jan. 4 before dual matches at Lehighton (Jan. 7) and Palmerton (Jan. 10).

The match that could determine whether the Tigers can contend for a league title will come Jan. 15 when Saucon Valley visits New Tripoli.
