PHS boys basketball wins first three games
The first week of the 2024-25 regular season was kind to the Parkland High School boys basketball team as the Trojans won all three of their games in a busy opening week, all by double figures.
Parkland opened its season at home and in conference play as it defeated Allen 61-48 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup last Monday, December 2. Last Thursday night, the Trojans took down Freedom 49-38 and then the next night, they went out of conference and hit the road for the first time to beat Spring-Ford 52-41.
In the win against the Canaries, Parkland trailed early, down 18-13 after the opening quarter, but went ahead by outscoring Allen 17-10 in the second quarter to take a 30-28 advantage at halftime. The Trojans doubled up the Canaries in the third quarter and led 44-35 heading to the fourth before they finished out the game.
Blake Nassry led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Both Cameron Hines and Ryan Kearney just missed double digits with nine points. Allen had four players in double figures.
Just like in the season opener, Parkland fell behind after the first quarter and then rallied as it outscored the Patriots 16-7 in the second stanza to go on top 23-18 at intermission.
The Trojans stayed out in front the rest of the way and were never threatened. Hines tallied a game-best 14 points. Scott Bauer recorded 12 points and a team-high two 3-pointers. Nassry contributed six points and Tyler Beck added five.
In the victory over the Rams, Parkland had a large fourth quarter comeback to rally from behind and win.
The Trojans led 8-6 after the first quarter, but were down 17-14 at halftime and 35-30 at the start of the fourth quarter. They outscored Spring-Ford 22-6 in that final period.
Jude Ruisch netted a team-high 11 points and added three 3-pointers. Hines totaled 10 points. Both Nassry and Nassim Adams had eight points and Javian Porter contributed seven points.
Parkland was at Whitehall this past Tuesday and travels north to play Pocono Mountain West Friday night.
