McGalla tops all scorers in wins over Freedom, Allen

The Parkland High School girls basketball team started the new 2024-25 regular season just the way it had hoped, winning all of its games in the first week, both coming on the road in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The two victories came by an average margin of victory of 40.5 points. The Trojans opened the campaign by winning at Allen 64-21 last Monday and followed that up three nights later with a 56-18 victory at Freedom.

In the win over the Canaries, Parkland started off fast jumping out to an 18-3 lead after the opening quarter. After going into halftime ahead 35-16, the Trojans outscored Allen 13-0 in the third.

There were 13 different players that found the scored for Parkland, led by 13 points from Aneri McGalla, the lone Trojan in double figures. Addison Fritzinger had nine points, all coming via the three-pointer. Both Delaney Chilcote and Cheryllana Cunningham finished with seven points.

While Parkland went on top 28-14 at halftime of the victory against Freedom, the game wasn’t put away until the second half when the Trojans outscored the Patriots 28-5.

McGalla finished with a team-best 12 points and Chilcote had 11. Isabella Hallal contributed eight points, Morgan Volpe had seven points and Carly Spang added six points.

Parkland has a busy stretch before the holidays. The Trojans had their home opener Tuesday night against Whitehall and then welcome Pocono Mountain West on Friday night. They go out of conference competition on Saturday evening to play at Wyomissing.

Parkland then has another three-game week next week with back-to-back home conference games against Northampton on Monday and Central Catholic Friday, followed by a road nonconference game at William Penn Charter on Saturday.
