EHS boys swim team beats Vikings

Senior Julian Vlaeminck had a strong day in the pool against Allentown Central Catholic recently to lead the Hornets to a 99-65 win over the Vikings (1-2 overall, 1-1 EPC). Emmaus is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the EPC.

Vlaeminck took home wins in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events as he won the 200 freestyle by just under 14 seconds and then edged teammate Nate Peters by 5.32 seconds in the 500.

In addition to the two individual wins, Vlaeminck swam a season best time as the leadoff swimmer in the 400-yard freestyle event with a time of 51.91 as the Hornets swept the top three spots, but swam the event as an exhibition so their scores did not count.

Peters, a junior, swam a personal best 28.80 in the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay as he teamed with Carson Mosel, Graham Lovett, and Roman Herman to lead Emmaus to a win. Peters then followed his second-place finish in the 500 with a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM.

Brady King continued his strong season with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a personal best time of 54.19. He also set a personal best in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.19 for Emmaus.

It was Will Reichart who edged out Peters in the 200-yard IM as he finished with a time of 2:12.41 beating Peters by 1.49 seconds. Junior Parker Gamler came home with a win in the 100-yard backstroke taking the win by 1.44 seconds over classmate Ridley Hartman with Emmaus freshman Sam Opritza finishing third.

In diving, Doug Cornish scored a 168.55 in the six-dive event and gained six points in the team standings for Emmaus.

On Friday, the Hornets will host Parkland for their annual rivalry meet. The Hornets then compete in the Cumberland Valley Holiday Invitational two days after Christmas and travels to Bucknell University for their first meet of 2025 in the New Year’s Challenge event.
