PHS rolls past Dieruff

The Parkland High School boys wrestling team had more of a quiet week last week before ramping up these next two weeks around the holiday time.

The Trojans got back to their winning ways by defeating Dieruff 63-10 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual match last Wednesday, Dec. 11, to erase their first defeat of the 2024-25 regular season at Northampton the Wednesday prior.

In the win over the Huskies, Parkland won 11 of the 13 bouts, including five pins, three technical falls and three forfeits.

The match started with back-to-back forfeit wins for Luis Moya and Braden Todora at 107 and 114 pounds, respectively. Matthew Velez and Eli Russ then both won by technical falls at 121 and 127 pounds, respectively, as the Trojans went up 22-0. Jared Santilli won by forfeit at 133 and Leo Kern earned a pin at 139.

Dieruff then picked up its first two victories in back-to-back bouts with a major decision at 145 pounds and a pin at 152. But Parkland finished off the match with five consecutive wins, as Isaac Evans, Jorge Moya, Maddox Rittenhouse and Max Pugach all recorded pins and Christopher Toth won by a technical fall to close out the match.

Parkland had an important match this past Wednesday, hosting Easton and then will compete at the King of the Mountain tournament this Friday and Saturday at Central Mountain High School. The Trojans will then wrestle at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic at Liberty High School next weekend.
