Parkland girls wrestlers beat K-Kids, Panthers
The Parkland High School girls wrestling team has kept the momentum going from last season and has been showing why it’s the defending Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and District 11 champions.
In their first two duals of the 2024-25 regular season, both in conference, the Trojans won by an average margin of victory of 34 points.
Parkland Northampton 52-24 last Wednesday to open the season and followed that three days later with a 57-17 home victory against Pocono Mountain West.
In the win over the Kids, Parkland took nine of the 13 bouts, including seven by fall.
The Trojans fell behind early as Northampton picked up a pin in the first bout at 100 pounds. But Ella Hesener, Lily Snook and Saige Rittenhouse recorded three consecutive pins at 106, 112 and 118 pounds, respectively, to put their team ahead 18-6.
After the Kids earned a pin at 124 to cut their deficit to 18-12, Parkland rattled off five victories in a row, highlighted by three straight pins by Abigail Taylor, Leila Palmieri and Angelina Spachman. Carissa Kalmar won by forfeit at 148 pounds and Natalie Deutsch tallied a major decision at 155 to extend the advantage to 46-12. Lizkarla Grullon Vasquez notched a pin a 190 pounds to round out the scoring.
Against the Panthers, Parkland won 10 of the 13 bouts, including six straight to open up the match. Elysa Lacerda got things going with a 15-10 decision at 100 pounds and then Hesener, Snook, Payton Ocasio, Rittenhouse and Taylor all recorded pins consecutively to put their team out to a 33-0 advantage. Spachman, Deutsch and Vasquez earned pins and Kendall Solenske finished off the match with a forfeit win at 235 pounds.
Parkland is competing at the 4th annual North Penn Girls Invitational this Saturday at North Penn High School. The Trojans then have back-to-back conference duals on consecutive nights as they compete at Easton next
