The Lehigh Valley DUI Highway Safety Task Force presented a program at Lehigh Carbon Community College in November to help prepare students for the challenges of driving during the holidays.

Students could use a simulator to check for distracted driving as well as wear DUI glasses as they attempted to toss a ball into a bucket, walk in a straight line or drive a model car.

Students trying these challenges were amazed at how much trouble they had negotiating the activities.

They also were invited to try on firefighting turnout gear and breathing apparatus to get a sense of how much they weighed and limited their mobility. The gear was provided by Community Fire Co. No. 1, Schnecksville.

Various community safety organizations were on hand as well to offer information regarding their programs and how they could help students in regard to personal and highway safety.
