Salisbury Township Board of Commissioner’s Vice President Rodney Conn, who represents Ward 4 in Salisbury Township, will not seek re-election.
Conn made the surprise announcement during the end-of-year Dec. 12 Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners’ meeting.
Conn expects to complete his term, which concludes Dec. 31, 2025.
The first day for candidates to circulate and file nominations petitions is Feb. 18, 2025 and the last day to circulate and file nominations petitions is March 11, 2025 for the May 20, 2025, primary election.
Conn read from a statement during the commissioners’ comment portion of the meeting. Conn, at the request of a reporter for The Press, emailed a copy of his statement:
“To the citizens of Salisbury Township, the township manager and staff and my fellow commissioners,
“After much reflection, I have decided not to run for an additional term as commissioner of the 4th Ward. For nearly 17 years, I have served in some capacity for the township. This term will complete eight years on this board, three years as an EAC member and six years before that on the zoning hearing board for the township.
“This spring marks 26 years of my moving into the house my wife grew up in. It has always been my intention to give back to the community that I have called home the longest in my life. My first introduction into municipal government was as one of several high school seniors who spent the day with local leaders and employees in the city I grew up in Ohio.
“In my time as commissioner, I have been surrounded by people who only want to do the best that they can for their community. They do not do this for the money. If my math is correct, we do this for less than about $5 an hour.
“I commend and thank Commissioner Patnaik for the work he does for the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Commissioners that probably drives that rate to $1 an hour.
“I wish to thank Commissioner Brinton for her leadership over the past five years as president of the board and her faithful service to the community. Heather and Alex, it has been a pleasure to work with you and I wish the best for the entire board.
“I wish to thank Jim Brown who appointed me to zoning and the EAC, and who had the confidence to ask that I consider running for office when he left the board. I’d also like to thank the citizens of the 4th Ward for allowing me to serve them as their commissioner.
“Most of all, I’d especially like to thank my wife, Sarabel for her support over these years. Without her support, it would not have been possible for me to serve and gain a degree of fulfillment in my years of service.
“Thank you.”
Before the Dec. 12 commissioners’ meeting, a public hearing was held concerning the vacating of Nottingham Road between Yorkshire Road and a cul-de-sac. The request was granted by a vote of 5-0 by commissioners.
The Dec. 26 board of commissioners’ meeting is canceled. Township commissioners next meet 7 p.m. Jan. 9, 2025 in the meeting room of the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
