As the winter season has started up again, Salisbury High School has new updates. From fundraisers to the butterfly migration and exciting sports seasons, the school community has room for everyone to get involved.
As the winter sports season begins, Salisbury High School’s winter cheer team is asking for parents, community members and families to take advantage of this exciting fundraiser. The team is hosting a gift card raffle, giving participants the chance to win over $250 in gift cards. Tickets for the raffle are available. The drawing will take place Dec. 20 and participants do not need to be present to win. Winners will be notified directly using the contact information they provide when purchasing tickets. This is a great opportunity to support the cheer team and potentially walk away with a valuable prize.
The Spanish Club has reminded the school community about the annual monarch butterfly migration. This process takes place November through March, as millions of monarch butterflies travel from southeastern Canada and the northeastern United States to Mexico’s Central Highlands.
To celebrate and educate about this process, the club has designed insightful posters and created an interactive tapestry of butterfly wings for students to take photos with, encouraging everyone to look out for when this process occurs again. The butterfly wings were inspired by the popular murals around the country that invite people to take photos, said Spanish Club Adviser Laura Dos Santos. By combining education with art, the Spanish Club has reminded SHS about this annual migration.
Rifle has started back up and an exciting season has been predicted. Returning sophomore and varsity starter Adrienne Kipp shared her insight: “This season is going really well; it’s probably the best Salisbury has been in the past couple of years.” The team recently competed against Freedom High School at Liberty High School. Last year, the team achieved a significant milestone by winning its first match in six years. Building on that success, the team has high hopes and promises for a strong season.
With so many engaging activities and events, SHS is having an exciting winter. From the creativity of the Spanish Club to the determination of the rifle team and an engaging fundraiser from winter cheer, there is something for everyone to enjoy and support. As winter break approaches, Salisbury is as active as ever.
