Tax rate set for 2025
During the Dec. 16 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Ordinance 2024-04 was approved unanimously in a roll-call vote.
The ordinance states council “has determined the hazardous and unsafe traffic conditions within the municipal limits of the borough exist because large vehicles are often parked on streets in the borough. These hazardous and unsafe traffic conditions create a nuisance and are detrimental to the public health, safety and welfare of the residents ...”
The ordinance states parking of large vehicles is prohibited “within the municipal limits of the Borough of Macungie.” This does not prohibit the temporary parking of any truck or truck trailer or tri-axle vehicle for the purpose of deliveries or pick ups. Further, “it shall be unlawful for a recreation vehicle to be occupied for living purposes within the borough of Macungie, whether located on a public street, public property or private property, except for a period of not to exceed 72 hours if the owner of the recreational vehicle is visiting the owner of the property wherein the recreation vehicle is parked.” The recreational vehicle cannot be parked on and/or along a public street.

Resolution 2024-08 was also approved which sets the tax rate for 2025. The tax rate is 4.25 mills on each dollar of assessed valuation or the sum of 0.00425 on each $100 of assessed valuation.
It was said the tax is the lowest rate in similar areas in Lehigh County.
The crosswalk light project should be completed within two weeks.
Mayor Ron Karboski said the Christmas tree lighting and Macungie Holiday were successful. They were run very well and had good attendance.
Resolution 2024-10 was approved for the 2025 Fee Schedule. There was some debate over the increase in rental fees for the Macungie Institute. It was said in comparison to other areas, it is not out of line.
Resolution 2024-09 was approved which allows banners across Main Street, a state highway.
There was an executive session held after the council meeting for legal, personnel and real estate issues.
