Pecuch in middle of it all
For the Northampton girls’ basketball team, Isabella Pecuch is literally in the center of things.
The 5-10 junior transferred to Northampton after her freshman year at Parkland, and she has gradually transition into the program.
This season, Pecuch and senior guard Annie Beenders are the focal points for the Konkrete Kids, who look to improve on their 6-16 season last year.
The Kids recently won their first game with a 60-43 victory over Bangor after they dropped games to Easton (61-25), and Dieruff (42-28). In the Bangor victory, Pecuch had 16 points. It was a season-high for Pecuch after she had 10 against Dieruff.
Pecuch has seen the Kids’ start as being beneficial down the road.
“We faced tough competition so far this season, but I think we learned a lot from the past three games,” said Pecuch. “We know how we need to work together to do better. We have to continue to trust, communicate and growth together on the court.”
Pecuch also saw her summer play as another positive factor for her career.
“I am thankful for the experience of playing AAU for the first time this summer,” added Pecuch. “I feel my general basketball IQ has improved but I still have a lot of work ahead of me.”
Head coach Jeff Jacksits has liked what he has seen from Pecuch.
“She has a very good summer,” he said. “She is more confident with her shot and inside game.
“She is on the upside and there is room for improvement.”
Jacksits is confident their latest victory can help springboard the team forward.
“We won our first at Bangor, and we played well, reduced our turnovers, and made shots,” said Jacksits. “We played good team ball with a balanced scoring attack.
“We’re still searching for our true team identity and Saturday’s game was a good start. The coaching staff is trying to instill the thought that we might not be the most talented team on any given night, but we should never be a team that is out worked. Effort is contagious and hopefully it continues to grow throughout our team.”
