LHS falls to Scranton Prep
Liberty has scheduled some of the toughest nonconference games in the area so far this season. Despite losing to the likes of Wilson West Lawn and Scranton Prep, it’s the process involved which is what the Hurricanes hope to gain the most from such competition.
Liberty fell to Scranton Prep 47-46 over the weekend, but it was another opportunity to see where the team needs to improve.
Jake Pukszyn and Will Palmer each led the Hurricanes with 16 points apiece in the loss, but it wasn’t enough to overcome another test against one of the upper tier programs in the state.
Head coach Nigel Long would like to get some wins against these type of teams down the road, but understands the value they provide in getting his group ready for the postseason.
“Both Wilson West Lawn and Scranton Prep are state playoff teams and some of the better teams in their respective areas,” he said. “Both programs are a great litmus test for us. Although we came up short in both games, we’ve learned a ton about our team this early in the season and the experience should hopefully help us down the road.”
Pukszyn has been the most important piece of the puzzle for the Hurricanes this year and Long acknowledged his stellar play to date along with some other players that have stood out.
“Jake Pukszyn has not only led us in scoring, but he has averaged five assists a game along with five rebounds a game,” said Long. “He’s finding ways to affect the game on both ends of the floor.
Jarrell Teague and Chase Dusseau have been pleasant surprises this year. Both players had strong offseasons, and it is great to see their hard work pay off this early in the year.”
Liberty gets back into action with a three game slate this week as they take on Emmaus (1-6), Pocono Mountain West (5-1) and Dallas (4-2).
