EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents are Ralph and Diane. I have two siblings, my sister is Autumn and my brother is Ryan. My dog’s name is Candie and my two cats are Felix and Bumper.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is science because I find science to be absolutely fascinating, especially biology and physics.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Yes, I have received Academic Excellence Awards freshman and sophomore years. I also received The Resilience and Creativity Award in Science during junior year.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I have been horseback riding for 10 years as a hunter jumper and as a dressage rider. I have done a lot of competitions over the past two years during summer and the school year. Competitions are on the weekends so it’s always hard to balance riding and schoolwork at the start of the school year. I also work at the barn I ride at which has given me much more experience around horses than a lesson student would normally receive. Not only do I work at the barn but I have also been working in housekeeping at Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Conference Center for the past two years. This job is what taught me all of my people skills I’ll need for life. The amount of experience I gained from these extracurriculars will definitely help me in the future one way or another.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I would say my biggest challenge to date would be managing my workload with both extracurricular activities and schoolwork.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to go to Delaware Valley University and get a degree in equine sciences so I can go to vet school.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. If I could I would spend an evening conversing with Princess Diana because she was a remarkable person who truly cared about her family and those around her.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. As my career aspirations are to be an equine vet, I would like to be not just a good vet but a great one who not only saves animals’ lives but is compassionate to their owners and truly makes a difference in the vet med industry.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice to my peers is to be yourself. People don’t always think about what you are wearing or what your hair looks like. It’s ok to not “try” on an outfit or to have a bad hair day! I definitely have had plenty of those! The only person out there able to be you is you and that doesn’t mean to follow the school norms or what is in or out it just means to do you and only you because only you can.
